Label
The name Merlot comes from the French term Merle (blackbird). It remains unclear whether this grape variety, which originated in Bordeaux, got its name due to the culinary preference of the blackbird or thanks to its black and blue coloration. On the label of our single-varietal organic red wine SOPRA MERLOT you will find a small feather that recalls the etymology of the grape variety.
Vinification
Harvest by hand. Selection of berries on the vibrating table, from vintage 2020 with optical selection machine. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in steel tank followed by malolactic fermentation in French barrique in first occupancy. The 24-month aging takes place in barrique. We then carry out bottling (without filtering).
Tasting note
A beautiful ruby red color, intense and brilliant. The bouquet is orderly, with notes of blackberries, plums, amarena cherries and a touch of dried cloves, without any vegetal notes. The evolution on the palate is intense, energetic and contrasting, with a fragrant fruit, stimulating with lively tannins that indicate the young age of the wine. The finish is tasty and the impression of a Merlot with a unique personality that does not conform to the series of “super soft” Merlots prevails. To appreciate its full potential, further bottle aging is recommended.
